Pride before the fall, humility to restoration

The difference in Joseph’s demeanor as he interpreted Pharoah’s dream was his humility as opposed to the pride he had when he shared his own dream with his brothers and father. (Genesis 37). Joseph had to go thru a pruning process in order to realize that it is God himself that gives and takes away.
As he interpreted Pharoah’s dream, he suggests to Pharoah to look for a discerning man to place in charge of the land rather than responding pridefully by recognizing surely there was someone other than himself, that would be qualified to assume this crucial position.
Joseph humbly emphasizes that it is ultimately God and only God that can interpret Pharoah’s dream and that Joseph is merely the vessel that God has chosen to use and this not out of Joseph’s own wisdom.
Joseph’s process not only brought forth a change in his countenance, but God also restored his authority at the appointed time. (Genesis 41:41-42). Joseph’s process also brought him to a place of fully forgiving his brothers. Joseph’s heart was tenderized and transformed upon overhearing his brothers discussing amongst themselves the day they bitterly sold Joseph. Joseph’s brothers’ repentance ushered Joseph into the place of true forgiveness. (Genesis 41:21-24).
There are dreams the Lord deposits in us, not to respond out of pride, but to simply discover that all we are and will be are not products of what we can become by our own doing, but it is only by the hand of God.
